FABRIC OF TRANSFORMATION

Pacific Salmon Leather

Pacific salmon entered the Salish Sea thousands of years ago after the last ice sheet retreated. Today salmon are a cornerstone species in the Pacific Northwest, intertwined with the ecological and cultural fabric of the coast. Salmon leather is an expression of love and respect towards wild fish and the ecosystems they call home. Salmon leather textiles provide creative possibilities for Salmon Harvest Transformation and the future of wild salmon across British Columbia.

Transforming current salmon harvesting practices to integrate value added processing and production of sustainable salmon leather and goods, we can contribute to the economic and cultural value of salmon in BC, while maintaining the essential connection to salmon fishing coastal communities have depended on for millenia.

Salmon Harvest Transformation

Every salmon skin carries the story of it’s ancestors, an ancient story of resilience and life in harmony with nature. By returning all fish waste to the source of origin, we participate directly in the life cycle of the salmon. Salmon bring nutrients from the ocean into rivers and the forests nurturing the next generation of salmon. By valuing and protecting wild salmon and their watersheds we can relocalize salmon economies and contributw to local climate solutions.

Holistic Approach to Natural Resources

There are long term environmental benefits from local production of goods, using local materials, destined for local distribution. Salmon leather is a community based resource that can help to relocalize salmon economies across British Columbia.
