Process
The process begins catching a salmon in The Salish Sea. Salmon are selectively harvested on the fly, primarily from Capilano hatchery salmon populations.
Every Salmon is skinned whole, all waste is returned to the source of origin, where nature will transform it into Salmon for the future.
The tanning process is 100% organic using natural vegetable sources, creating no toxic waste.
Only natural dyes such as Cochineal, Hibiscus, Iron, Lac, Marigold are used.
After tanning, the Salmon skins are softened with organic oils and stretched by hand before pressing and drying.
Selected pieces of Salmon leather are bonded with upcycled fibres such as “Goretex”, waterproof canvas, cotton denim, and vegetable tanned leaterh (cow hide).
Every piece is hand cut and stitched using Tiger Thread, the edges are sealed with Tokonole and Bee’s wax, the zippers are upcycled dead stock from Our Social Fabric.
