Salmon Fly Fishing Masterclass
Intensive Saltwater Salmon Clinic- June through October.
The Capilano is one of only a few rivers in B.C. that has a natural run of Coho salmon in the Spring, Summer. and Fall. Starting in early May Coho will return to the river until the end of November. This gives you 150 days per season to pursue Coho. There are also hatchery Chinook, and Pink salmon that return to the lower river and Brother’s Creek in the Fall.
Whats Covered: This in depth field class covers the history of the Capilano to better understand how the dam, hatchery, weir, weather and tides, seals, and anglers influence salmon behavior and movements of fish into the system throughout the season.
We’ll cover everything from utilizing online resources and maps, equipment and flies, stripping baskets and nets, strategy and techniques, casting, harvesting, to processing and preserving your catch.
What you’ll need:
A BC tidal waters fishing license: https://recfish-pechesportive.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/nrls-s...
Chest waders ( or any waders) with wading boots, the beach can get very rocky.
Rod: #6/7/8 wt fly rod with floating line, intermediate tip optional,
Highly recommended: Hat, polarized sunglasses or protective eyewear, rain jacket, sunscreen, and consider sun gloves and gaiter, water bottle, a camera, patience.
What we offer on guided trips:
Experienced tidal angling guide and flats fly angler, with over 3500 hours on the beach in the last 8 years, and 35 years of saltwater fly fishing experience in B.C.
A custom stripping basket and landing net rental included. ( or purchase one in the shop)
Leaders, tippet, custom beach flies, catch processing and packaging.
Central location accessible by public transit, with free parking, restaurants, shopping and amenities across the street from the beach.
Documentation: Professional film and photography packages available to document your experience.
